Forlorn or sodden
Dusty or dank
Barren or rutted
Leafed or muddied
Down and dirty
Up and Under
Known,
yet unnoticed
Too often taken
Occasionally missed-taken
Can’t be avoided
Couldn’t sidestep
Chosen just the same
A way of walking life
Away from walking life
Away from a waking life
Away from an awakening life
To escape confines
To connect with creatures
To commune with creation
To observe beauty
To find others
To open options
To discover self
To feel alive
Some fall off their path
Some fall-out of sorts
Some fallout with no supports
Some get lost
Many just talk the walk
Some walk their talk
Trailing off
Many go pathless
Some tow the path
Some tip tow by their wrath
Some aimlessly peripatetic
Many hopelessly path-etic
A few
Without mocks or knocks
actually stride their strut
swagger, not stagger
amongst the rocks
over the valleys
into the hills
through the streams
following their dreams
against the elements
and the ill wills
But what is sure
Is that paths are chosen
Directions are optional,
But often limited.
While slow is more sure,
Pace is personal
Experience is probable
Perception is eclectic
Even if life is hectic
What the eye sees
What the ear hears
What the fingers feel
What the mouth tastes
What the nose inhales
What the heart beats
What the head thinks
Depends on the conditions
The state of the being
Pathbreaking News
A breath-taking life,
A life full of heart
A life full of cause,
Meaning and purpose
Still a life left to live
Is ready to rock, to roll
Ready to trek, to travel
Ready for that role stroll
Not down memory lane
Down a lane of
Memorable moment-making!
No beaten path to follow
No sauntering down some primrose path
Nor taking a-path-y of least resistance,
Or getting off the beaten path
Without taking a beating and a bearing
Looking ahead
Planning the steps
Envisioning the impact
Facing the fears
Risks right this way!
Does the walker awake
From his hypnotic state?
How does she care
Becoming more aware?
What does she wear?
Maybe she has to declare.
Maybe I am path-ological
Need everything to make sense
Maybe I’m ideo-pathic
Need a shared life.
I want to know what beats
In your head and bod
I want to know
What makes you glow
What makes us grow
What path-o-gens-erates us so?
We know what to do
What we have to pursue:
Intimacy and becoming anew
I want to see
What I can be
What are we?
What is the almighty.
Wondering in becoming
Becoming in the wondering
Without the wandering
Aimlessly alone
or always on the phone?
If we study our path-ology,
do we discover our pathways?
If we choose to walk on the same path,
do we become more tele-path?
If we don’t venture out,
are we more like homeo-paths?
Or if we go to those who we know,
Do we become socio-paths?
If we live near woods and water,
Won’t we be more natur-apath-ic
If we are hesitant / reticent,
do we become anti-path-ic?
Or simply path-etic?
If we connect to those in need,
Don’t we become em-path-ic?
If we dwell on our path life,
Do we feel the sym-path-y
or the symmetry of our souls?
My path signs now appear
Out of nowhere
Pointing a-way
To where my blazes burn
From known
Towards the unknown
Destination light
Risk is a flight
Not a fright!
Just a-head
No darkness there
Just looming lightness
Just infinite possibilities
On hiway’s horizon
No simple pathing passion and purpose
No passing fancy
My passage is toward a tower
of intentionality
and lightness of being
Road signs don’t say stop on my hiway
They say “Take Pause;
Time to Reflect”
Obstacle Ahead; Opportunity Alert
Don’t Look Back;
Keep Eyes on the Way!
Keep Fingers out of the Jar
Hands on the Steering
Foot on the Pedal
Head out of the Clouds
Heart on my Sleeve
Poetry on my Lips
Lust in my loins
Mind out of the Gutter.
Channeled choices
Making maps
Charting courses
Paths have limits
if they are earthbound.
Even waterways are limited
By shore and seas.
With seasoned compass and courage
Using solar plexus
And Lunar lunacy
As Sextant
Losing what’s left behind
Risking what’s right
Facing the light
Without taking flight
Writing the wrongs
Maybe some songs
Taking our turns
Even if there’re burns
Manifesting what churns
