An appreciation for a fun 2-week vacation in Maine

Peter and Leslie Gunn
Thank you, for being so much fun

We loved your greeting when we arrived
After a long drive your energy revived

We didn’t expect to discover you two
Having the same address as Tern II

Including us as part of the Gunn clan
We felt like campers saying “Yes, I can!”

While on the trails and climbs
We laughed and giggled numerous times

You showed us vistas and views
You inspired us to notice all the nature clues

From Valley Cove to Volley ball
Somes Sound to Lower Hadlock, you made the call

At Harper Cove balancing bodies and rocks
You inspired us to take off our socks and let down our locks

Dining at Burning Tree devouring scallops and mussels
We delighted in your company; never any tussles

You offered your deck to watch the sunsets
You made the end of the day void of regrets

Kayaking in the morning, discovering eagle and seal
You energized us, always keeping it real

Your timing for popovers and jam
Had us moving over Cadillac like rams

You gave us so many tips and trips
You showed us where to swim and

You opened the roof of your car with ease
For us to experience the breeze

Sharing the Secret was our gift to you
Hoping you manifest in everything you do

You are Acadia’s Secret Zagat
Mt Desert has a treasure in your lot

SYC may not have appreciated you
But Karen and Henry as sure as shit do!

Missing My Daughter

My daughter and I sharing a snack on a sidewalk cafe in New York City 2006.

Kate, wherever you are
You aren't too far.
I know you are on a path
One, I hope, not full of wrath.

Maybe you just need time
To figure out what is sublime.
Maybe you need some space
To discover where you are in your race.

Maybe you need to find what matters
To try on what suits and flatters.
Maybe in time you’ll find your way
To discover what you need to say.

Maybe if you face your fears,
You’ll discover what clears and endears.
Maybe if you listen, not to head, but to your heart,
You will discover what really keeps us apart.

You can always see
What needs to be,
If you just look at what is right inside
You’ll uncover what to decide.

Always difficult to see the clearest view
Without the perspective of at least two.
Life becomes so much simpler when it is shared
Especially when you realize how much your father/family has always cared.

If we open to what we discern
We will undoubtedly find truth at every turn.
Wouldn’t it be funny
To discover life can be so much more sunny?
(And certainly not about money!)

You will return when the time is right
And in the process eliminate all your fright.
However, sometimes the longer one waits,
The more difficult one’s fates.

I know you will recognize what to do
Because you know how much I love you!
I look forward to your call
So that we can stop this freefall.

Maybe you will see
That sharing needs to be
For each new day
We need to feel what we say.
To be open to love

It is always hard to decipher the cause
The answer often lies in just taking pause.
