Missing My Daughter

My daughter and I sharing a snack on a sidewalk cafe in New York City 2006.

Kate, wherever you are
You aren't too far.
I know you are on a path
One, I hope, not full of wrath.

Maybe you just need time
To figure out what is sublime.
Maybe you need some space
To discover where you are in your race.

Maybe you need to find what matters
To try on what suits and flatters.
Maybe in time you’ll find your way
To discover what you need to say.

Maybe if you face your fears,
You’ll discover what clears and endears.
Maybe if you listen, not to head, but to your heart,
You will discover what really keeps us apart.

You can always see
What needs to be,
If you just look at what is right inside
You’ll uncover what to decide.

Always difficult to see the clearest view
Without the perspective of at least two.
Life becomes so much simpler when it is shared
Especially when you realize how much your father/family has always cared.

If we open to what we discern
We will undoubtedly find truth at every turn.
Wouldn’t it be funny
To discover life can be so much more sunny?
(And certainly not about money!)

You will return when the time is right
And in the process eliminate all your fright.
However, sometimes the longer one waits,
The more difficult one’s fates.

I know you will recognize what to do
Because you know how much I love you!
I look forward to your call
So that we can stop this freefall.

Maybe you will see
That sharing needs to be
For each new day
We need to feel what we say.
To be open to love

It is always hard to decipher the cause
The answer often lies in just taking pause.

Poem written in 2006 while I was vacationing in Maine.
